On time, and as
promised, commercial air service slipped
quietly and officially back into economic reality at
the New Orleans Lakefront Airport on
Friday, June 28, 2013. With the10:05
a.m. touchdown of the
9-passenger Cessna
Caravan from Destin,
Florida, Southern
Airways Express
made its mark,
establishing the
first commercial
airline service at
the lakefront
facility, reportedly
since 1946. Though
this inaugural
roundtrip flight
launches the Destin-New
Orleans service, the
company begins
routine flights on
July 2nd to regional
destinations
including Gulf
Shores, AL, Destin,
FL, Panama City, FL,
Jackson, MS and
Memphis, TN, and
others per demand.
Low fares (ticket
prices from $129 -
$249 each way),
quick and convenient
boarding, and
in-demand
destinations should
produce a winning
formula - at least
that is the hope of
Stan Little - the
41-year old founder
and Chief Executive
Officer of the new
airline. A
fleet of new fuel
efficient aircraft
should match up
perfectly with the
demand for efficient
business and leisure
travel.
Currently,
Flightline First
is the host terminal
for Southern Airways
Express, however,
CEO, Stan Little,
expressed his
deepest hopes for
one day operating
out of the newly
reconstructed main
terminal
building which is
expected to open in
the fall of 2013.
Flightline First is
the only
locally-owned
fixed-based operator
servicing the
charter aviation
industry, and is one
of three new
FBO's that have
established services
at the New Orleans
Lakefront Airport.
Flightline's General
Manager, Brayton
Matthews, obviously
likes the
partnership, but
acknowledges the key
is making enough
people aware of the
service.
It will certainly be
hard to beat the
convenience.
Passengers can park
free, arrive 15 to
20 minutes before
flight time and be
welcomed with a
leisurely boarding
experience. - that's
in stark contrast to
today's typical
travel adventure.
The New Orleans
Lakefront Airport is
located in New
Orleans East
adjacent to the
beautiful South Shore
Harbor Marina making
it just one more
wonderful addition
to this great
community -
rebuilding bigger,
better.
